More and more people today are starting to realize that there is a growing problem with obesity. You don't have to go very far to look around to see clear evidence of this. And this problem is not going to go away by itself. The only way to avoid it is to take responsibility for your own body. Nobody else will. I'll give you a couple tips to get you started in the right direction.

When you break everything down, there are only two ways to lose weight. Change what and how much you eat, and change what and how much you exercise. The whole billion dollar diet and exercise industry centers around these to things, and how to make them as painless as possible. Here I'll give you some tips on choosing the right exercise plan that will go with any diet you may choose.

Whenever you exercise, you are either building up strength, or endurance, or a mix of both. Endurance exercises are commonly thought to be the best for losing weight. Running, walking, swimming are great while you are doing the actual exercise, but they don't contribute as much to increases in metabolism that strength training does.

Strength exercises are the best for increasing our resting metabolism, and therefore have a greater effect on your long term weight loss efforts. Strength exercises are anything that leaves you out of breath after a minute or so.

Now if you are worried about getting huge and bulky muscles like the incredible hulk, think again. If you do lighter weights, and more repetitions, this won't happen. Body weight exercises are likely the best exercises you can do if your goal is to lose weight and get in the best shape possible. Push ups, sit ups, running or walking quickly up flights of stairs will do wonders for you physique.

Many people like to add in some endurance training once in a while, but you don't need do. Many are surprised when they realize just how big of an impact only a couple of minutes a day these exercises can have. All you need is a couple of minutes, and some floor space, and your good to go.

Bodyweight exercises are really a good starting point if you want to have a healthy lifestyle. It practically costs nothing to try. And they are good for toning the muscles, so no fear for those who worry that they will get ?body builder? muscles.
